Articl Id: 184. The 3X-18X crankshaft position (crank) sensor, on the GM 3.8L V6 engine, can easily be tested (to find out if it's bad or not) with a multimeter. With this article, I'll walk you thru' the entire crankshaft position sensor testing process in a step-by-step manner. In case you're wondering if you can test the crankshaft position
Apply the parking brake and block wheels. Ensure the hood is closed. 2. Place the transmission in park for automatics and neutral for manual transmissions. 3. Start the engine and bring it up to operating temperature. 4. Apply the hydraulic brakes. Select and Enable Crankshaft Variation Relearn Procedure using a scan tool.

If the ECU only sometimes detects a CKP signal, it will set a diagnostic trouble code (DTC), DTC P0339 - Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent, and illuminate the MIL or CEL (malfunction indicator lamp or check engine light). If the signal is weak (poor installation or faulty sensor) or there is a wiring problem (loose connector or If the ECU cannot detect a CKP signal, it will set a diagnostic trouble code (DTC), DTC P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction, and illuminate the MIL or CEL (malfunction indicator lamp or check engine light). Without a CKP signal, you may experience no-start or start-stall conditions. Depending on year, make, and model, the
A CKP sensor provides an Engine Control Module (ECM) with its primary engine timing reference signal. The ECM uses it to calculate the engine speed and position for accurate injection and ignition control.
this is an ecoboost 3.5 L the sensor is at the back on the driver side, there is hardly an room to put your hand up in there, there is a round hole about 2 in dia. that the sensor. goes in. Take a look at you tube 3.5L crankshaft position sensor there's a video showing where it is located. Thanks. Reply Like.

The backfiring you describe doesn't sound like a crank sensor. Usually when bad, the bike wont accelerate, dies spits and pops, dies won't run hardly
